Wolfenstein MP - Details

"Hey all, just thought I should set the record straight about a few things...
Back from when I was at Activision and involved with this project, I can correct a few misconceptions. Threewave did indeed complete 8 MP maps at the end of 2007, as well as the entire MP game up to a beta stage. They were even consulted by Activision to aid in the SP game (although this did not actually happen). When the MP maps were finished, SP was in a quite rough state by comparison, and didn't have any of this Shroud stuff going on. From what I understand, Activision was much happier with the Threewave maps then with what they were seeing in the SP game at the time. Threewave wasn't able to completely finish the MP game since it was waiting for Raven to finish up. I am not completely sure why Endrant was hired to complete the MP game- but I would guess that its at least partially because they are quite familiar with the engine the MP game was using. MP and SP are using different variants of the Doom3 engine, with MP being (at the time at least) a mod of the ET: Quake Wars engine."
"I hate to dash your hopes, but Wolf MP is literally an extensive mod of Quake Wars. Learn to accept that.
The use of the et:qw engine was never "temporary". The MP game was built completely separately by Threewave as a mod of ET:QW. When I say a mod- I mean the the game was literally created in Splash Damage's Radiant editor. The Raven models and textures were the only thing shared between SP and MP. Raven's SP idTech engine would have been disastrous choice for a MP game as it was wholly modified for a SP experience (streaming packs of the levels to load as the player progressed) and never would have worked over a network. The ET:QW engine was optimized for online play, so it was an obvious choice for Wolf MP, with larger draw distances, better lighting, etc. This is the logical reason Endrant was chosen to finish the game.
Be prepared for some other major changes as well. It was also decided to have MP teams be resistance fighters versus the nazis (no Allies this time around to fit with the SP game), and classes were streamlined down to 3 (soldier/engineer/medic). I did see some cool stuff though being built by each class as a deployment...rocket turrets, mgs, atomic mines, spawn locations, radar stations. The maps looked pretty cool as well...kinda urban WWII guerilla warfare in Austria."
